I have 20# fluorocarbon on my jig rod. Today, when I had a little over-run and had to strip a few feet of line off and reel it back on, it had coils that made it hard to deal with. So, I plan to take it off and spool on some braid that I will use with a fluoro leader. I fish in grass, but it is not terribly thick and heavy. What is the LIGHEST braid that you would use for casting and pitching jigs under these conditions?

40 is the lightest I would use. It has smaller diameter than the 20# fluoro you've been using. Why not? I'll bet you can get away with no leader. Try it.

Thanks for the reply Ken. I want to get the yellow high visibility line and, therefore, will use a fluoro leader.

If you want hi vis braid. Color 5-6 ft with a marker instead of using a leader.

Dubee, that is a great idea. I don't like having to use a leader, so this is what I will do. Thanks very much.

I keep a green marker in my boat just for this purpose sine the color on braid will fade. Works great

I use the yellow Power Pro on my spinning reels for fishing wacky worms, I keep a black magic marker in the boat for coloring 6-8 feet. One tip I can share, take a utility knife and cut a slot in the tip to pull your line through, I saw this somewhere, works like a charm.

Power Pro Super Slick

Definitely gonna want to go with this line. I've used the 15# for flipping countless times. This is the best braid that I've found, bar none! I can count on 1 finger where I've broken off on the 15#; I've never broken off on anything over 15# in this line. It's super strong! It's has the smooth outer coating so you can cast it a mile without the line digging in to your spool. They have green or brown line and I choose which color I use based on whether I'm fishing grass or timber. You can also keep a Sharpie on board and color the last 6-8 feet of the line.

50-65 maxima braid is my favorite. Original powerpro for the money.

Had an Elite pro tell me that braid will cost you bites. Since he is by far better at this fishing thing than I am I will listen. I only use it if flipping heavy vegetation.

In clear water I could see it costing you a few bites. Flipping, like the OP asked about, you get most of your bites on the initial drop. It is more of a reaction strike as the bait falls down in front of them. I think it is worth trying. The nice thing about braid is that it has no memory. That is one of the primary things the OP was complaining about.

Samurai braid 55 is the supplest best line I've used... Its almost 2 supple you could move up to the 70lb and it would feel like power pro's 50. I use both but have been moving more and more to the samuri.

marker thing works great
