Hello guys. I am wanting to purchase my first fiberglass fly rod but I can't decide between a few of these. I'm hearing lots of good stuff about Cabela's CGR, and the reviews for the Eagle Claw Featherlight are really good too. I also saw this generic combo on eBay as well but I don't know how good it is. Anyone have any experience with these rods? Eagle Claw Featherlight Fiberglass Rod/Reel ComboCabela's CGR

I purchased the CGR 2 weight and I am very impressed. I am now toying with the thought of a 4 weight. The Featherlight does not match up to the Cgr my advice would be the Cabelas brand the new one and also especially so if you can get it on special. I paid 80 bucks as opposed to 130 normal price.

I just purchased the Cabela's CGR 3 weight that was on sale for $64.99. I also purchased a Teeny BS 100 fly line and cheap reel. I haven't received it all yet so I can't give a report at this time. But for the price it was worth a try.

Thanks for the input so far guys! I also found another fiberglass rod/reel combo on eBay that I believe is better than the one I previously mentioned. Should I pull the trigger on that or the CGR with the Cabela's CSR 2 fly reel? Fiberglass Rod and Reel Combo Cabela's CSR 2 Fly Reel

I can only comment on the CGR, what weight are you wanting? For what are you targeting?

I really like my CGR 7' 4/5 and for the price right now, to me, it would be a no brainer.
A lot of nice old glass rods out there too.

5/6 wt for smaller bass, sunfish, and for detecting the subtle takes of carp.

I don't know that you would feel the "subtle" take of a carp but for sunfish and small bass a 3 weight is ideal.

My first fly rod...which I purchased with my own hard earned money as a teenager more years ago than I care to mention...was an Eagle Claw made by Wright-McGill.
STill have that rod today and occasionally use it.
Yes, if you are after a glass rod, then Eagle Claw is the way to go.

Les No sir, have not got to use it yet but I put a hurting on some Bass out there with a Fenwick FF806 I picked up about a month ago. I'm really wanting to take the new one fishing though. Les, hope all is well with you and yours

I just purchased the Cabela's CGR 3 weight that was on sale for $64.99. I also purchased a Teeny BS 100 fly line and cheap reel. I haven't received it all yet so I can't give a report at this time. But for the price it was worth a try. I received my rod. I couldn't believe how cheaply made the reel seat / handle on this rod was. Very disappointed.

Sorry to see you are disappointed, I don't know what your grip looks like but mine is very nice in fact I believe the cork is far higher a quality than all of my previous rods I have bought.
