Hi..I bought my boat and trailer in 2013. The first year both tires showed wear on the outer edges. So I called Bass Pro Boat Center in Ft Worth and they replaced both tires with better ones. They told me alignment is good. So 18 months later just this week I've notices one of the tires has an outer edge wear again. I'm out of warranty to have them replace the tire. Now my question is is this normal for the tire to wear out at he edge like this? I had 3 boats and I recalled I had the same issue with one of the boats before. Now looked like I'm going to replace the tires more often. What can I do to fix it permanently? Maybe the trailer is not made for this heavy boat. Maybe I need 4 wheels not 2. single axle trailers will swing side to side if tonque weight too low.
Higher speeds also contribute.
something to check , have someone watch your trailer as you tow.

air pressure according to tire mfg specs ? the tires would wear on the inside if it was a weight issue.under inflation cause's wear but most times inside and outside most trailer tires are 6 ply and require 45 to 55 psi check the sidewall for your psi

@heybaylor..quote interesting analogy. Never thought about that. What do you mean "if tongue weight too low"? @trlrman..the aire pressure is at 55psi per specs. Thank you all for the help.

I air all of my trailer tires to the max shown on the tire's sidewall.

I copied this from the GMC website, I used to tow with a full size Bronco.(short wheelbase)
moving the boat on the trailer to adjust tonque weight was critical ( 1 inch made a difference)

If you can find a shop that has the old time wheel alignment tools, they will have a magnetic caster camber & kingpin gauge. They can tell you if there is an alignment problem.

Had the same problem for several years and several
Sets of tires. Went in to get a new set put on trailer and the tire man looked at the tires and said I had a bent axle. He put a straight edge on the axle , sure enough he was correct. New axle and no more tire wear!

That and all single axle trailers I have owened done samething from new and still do.

Are you running the maximum PSI listed on the tire sidewall?

I think you're pegging the wrong problem here. If the axle duty is too light, the axle sags resulting in excessive wear on the inside of the tire. He has wear on the OUTSIDE. A sagged axle bears more weight on the inside edge of tires than the outside. I seem to recall a common axle weight of 1200 pounds, and I know their is a 3500 pound class. The VIN tag on his trailer will state what the load rating is for his axle. For that boat, I doubt he's over limit. The issue is far more likely to be alignment. He needs to go to a heavy truck shop to get a trailer axle alignment - common auto shop alignment gear won't handle that job.

I have the same rig it's a 2007 model I have had since 2011 and have put 3sets of tires on started running max air pressure and it seems to help the inside of my tires wear and outside has good tread life Left

I have seen some shops install a stiffener using a steel "I " beam and U bolts to help a weak axle. I guess it worked, didn't see any come back.
