Headed to fayette county next week for a day trip. I've never been to this lake. Any advice from experience? Can you run anywhere on the lake? Is the fishing any good this time of the year? Any thing will help. Thanks Chris

No you cannot run anywhere......be observant of the danger markers, slow down when you enter coves where there is standing timber. Fishing has been really good: Thanksgiving, Black Friday & Saturday after we nailed them ion the cold and rain. My buddies went this past Saturday with the high Bluebird sky and said it was just average. Meaning 30 fish with a couple of 5s. Great lake to fish.

I was there on Friday, the bluebird sky had the bite off. Very sluggish but we ended up with 20-25, nothing over 3 lbs or so. But fun.

When I go there, I mostly hang around the coves with timber and fish plastics and squarebills. You can pick pick up a few along the dam as well. I find them a lot of times between 10-15 FOW with crankbaits and carolina rigs. I've also had luck pitching senkos into the reeds. If you can find some grass beds near shore and timber, you can get some blowup action with weightless senkos or frogs. I hear the intake area by the power plant is good, but it's always heavily camped whenever I go there. I've also caught them cranking the deep submerged timber in the main lake. You should be good running the main lake, just steer clear of the warning buoys and know that there are a lot of big sticks under the water in many of the coves that are not visible.

The Alabama Rig on the dam can really equate to a whole lot of fun. I have not been there in a couple of years and I hear the Hydrilla is not as prolific as it once was. Still the best fishing lake I've ever been on in the winter.

Just won a small club tournament there this past Saturday. The fishing doesn't seem to be spectacular there right now, in my opinion, but it's a heck of a lot better than a lot of other lakes you can go to in the area. I started off my morning by catching a handful of good fish in the discharge cranking the rocks with a Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special medium diving crankbait (Citrus Shad color). Tried cranking the dam and the intake after that, but I guess the crankbait deal was either more of a morning thing, or those areas had just been hit real hard by everyone else by then. We did manage to get a couple of fish at the intake by using a T-rigged Blue Fleck colored Power Worm in about 12-17 ft of water. We did our real damage though after we started fishing isolated offshore grass beds in 5-12 ft. My big one was about 6 pounds caught on a River2Sea Twin Vibe lipless crankbait ripping it through some grass in about 6 ft of water. All of the other fish in the grass though, I caught by using a T-rigged PowerTeam Lures Sick Stick (3/16 oz weight). Good luck out there.

Good luck out there. I was there on Sunday and had a similar experience to what you've read here. Good action on crankbait in the morning and then working the watermelon worm the rest of the day.

Went back today. Wind was ridiculous today. Didn't get a bit until 2PM. Ended up with 32 fish all cam on c-rig 12-15 ft. Water temp was 66* caught most of fish in a 45 minute window.
