Do y'all just skin them alive ? Always wonder if anyone kills or freezes them.

If they are alive when they hit the cutting board then yup... (That's how I do it at least).

Mine go on ice as I catch them. They are dead by the time they hit the cutting board. May I ask what prompted this question?

I usually throw them on ice and they're dead when I clean them. Cold stiff crappie are easier to clean. 2cents

Just curious if I was doing it wrong. I feel bad for the ones that twitch as the knife goes threw. Sure are good tho, circle of life huh.

If you make a slice just behind the gills , and let them bleed out, you won't
have a bloody fillets.

This is how I do it, I like for them to be iced down for at least 4 hours. I think you end up with more meat when they are really cold!

I filet'd one last year and after flipping it over for the other side, the dang thing flopped out of my grasp and back into the lake. I figured that we'd find it, but it got away. If you fish Lavon and catch 1/2 of a fish, it's mine.
