It's shaping up to be an incredible fishing year for the 2016 season. I would like to thank the retail shop owners and their dedicated pro-staff representatives for all the hard work over the last few months. What started as an open forum for ways to collaborate between the individual local tournaments has grown into a series! Grab your calendar now, you won't want to miss a single one.

The Mission: An angler of the year points format facilitated by 2 local retailers, and directed by a third party. There will be 6 events hosted by the local shops and a championship tournament to crown the North Texas Kayak Champion.

The Schedule: Each date has been carefully chosen to minimally impact other kayak tournament trails. Each location has been carefully considered for the season during which the tournament has been scheduled. This should make for some very exciting fishing conditions!

3/26: Lake Palestine hosted by Backwoods
4/23: Lake Ray Roberts hosted by Mariner Sails
5/28: The Trinity River hosted by Backwoods
6/25: Lake Whitney hosted by Mariner Sails
7/16: The Brazos River hosted by Backwoods
8/20: Purtis Creek hosted by Mariner Sails

10/1: North Texas Kayak Championship location TBD by popular vote during the first tournament. Come cast your vote for your choice (Monticello, Texoma, or Fork)

The schedule could see a change or two with weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

More details:
Entry fee: $30 with an optional $10 big bass side pot.

Points to be awarded to every person that enters as well as weighted with the total number
of entries. Your best 5 events of the 7 (championship included) will be scored for the season's points.

Each tournament will follow the same set of rules to be specifically outlined prior to the event. The basics include: 5 fish limit, 12" minimum, facing left on Hawg trough with identifier in the picture, mouth open or closed, tail lying natural and all that jazz.

The bottom line: Many of us had hoped to find a way to bring the DFW kayak community together to help grow the sport that so many of us are passionate about. I hope this groundwork continues to encourage that vision. Tell everyone you know that this IS the doorway to a great experience of kayak tournament fishing. Good luck everyone!

This is awesome. Not sure if it was intentional or just coincidence, but thanks for mostly avoiding the Kayak Bass Series events. Because of that, I plan to fish most of these. I can't make the June one because we have a stop up in West Virginia, but the others I'll be fishing if at all possible.

Look forward to seeing how it comes together!

I hope everyone enjoys this! A lot of time and wings were put into the creation. We tried to pick the closest and best lakes for the time of year. While avoiding every date for other area tournaments that we could find. This was no easy feat as Texas has 17 straight Saturday's with a tournament.

Can't wait for this trail to begin. I like the mix of different bodies of water.

I got excited about this until I realized how much time I dont have to spend preparing for and fishing these tournaments lol. Palestine is over 2 hours and 150 miles one way from my house! crazy. Id love to fish them all but no way I will have the time. I will for sure make the Trinity River and possibly the Brazos and lake Whitney. It is cool to see a trail combine though and try and get everything under one roof! I appreciate the effort! Im just going to have to come to the realization that I can't realistically tournament fish and keep my wife and my newborn happy about it lol.

Well done...didn't think this was going to happen...but glad to see it. Dallas has the potential to draw some huge numbers of entries for kayak tournaments. Hopefully this will be well supported and continue to grow in the future.
