Your right John! I didn't realize they changed their date the championship used to be scheduled for the 26 and 27 (Easter weekend)

This is outstanding guys really. I hope to make most of these, although with a little one on the way next May it may prove difficult to get 5 in haha! Thanks to all who worked to bring this together, and a HUGE thanks for the very affordable entry fees. That is a massive bargaining chip for me to use with the Commanding General.

4/23: Lake Ray Roberts hosted by Mariner Sails
5/28: The Trinity River hosted by Backwoods
6/25: Lake Whitney hosted by Mariner Sails
7/16: The Brazos River hosted by Backwoods

10/1: North Texas Kayak Championship location TBD by popular vote during the first tournament. Come cast your vote for your choice (Monticello, Texoma, or Fork)

In order to not conflict with KBF nationals and all the folks that might be planning to chase the 25K purse, we have changed the date for the first tournament from 3/19 to 3/26. please check your calendar in case you had already saved the date for the first one.

It is cool to see a trail combine though and try and get everything under one roof! I appreciate the effort! Im just going to have to come to the realization that I can't realistically tournament fish and keep my wife and my newborn happy about it lol.

Kuddos to you being a great husband and dad. Happy wife, happy life is how the saying goes right? But as for "pre-fishing" anyone can catch toads on Palestine at that time of year...check out this beauty caught in late march during the KATs tournament last year, no pre-fishing. Keep in mind that for the AOY points we will count only your best 5 finishes, just in case you have to miss one or two.

Gents,

Forgive my ignorance. Can your yak have a trolling motor at these events?

Thanks,
Mike

It is usually human power only but some trails allow electrics for those with handicaps. I do not see tournament rules for this trail posted yet or I could answer your question more accurately.

Yes, It would be typical Tournament Rules with Human powered Kayaks only, unless you have special handicap needs. That will be up to the Tournament Director to make that call and make sure everything is up to par with the doctors notes and what not.

Looks great guys. Congrats on putting together what looks like a solid series. Maybe some of us ATX guys will drop in and fish an event or two.

We at Backwoods are very excited about this tournament series. We thank all of those volunteers that worked to put the series together and we are happy to be co-hosting in partnership with the good folks at Mariner Sails. It's gonna be a great season here in North Texas!

Things are starting to come together.....Yahoo! Thanks to Tim and Guillermo from Backwoods for getting together to put some great organizational insight in on this series! We are tickled here at Mariner to be partnering with them on this tour. These tournaments are hard work! My hat's off to all of the folks who have been pouring their time and effort into these types of events. I'm betting you'll all see more details soon!
