we are having our family Christmas at Denison next weekend 11th and 12th. I would like to take my nephews 11 and 12 behind the dam and do some fishing. we will be fishing from the bank. if we cannot fish we will at least see the water coming out of the gates. we will be on the texas side. they will probably have fun just casting even if they don't catch a fish. I have never fished there. any suggestions on lures, tackle, technique. I have a regular texas fishing license but I think I will need another license to fish below the dam.

Check the Denision Dam thread under the bank fishing forum. I have only been there a few times and only once to fish, but was in my kayak. Lots of people on the bank with very long rods casting large topwater plugs or big plastic shad into the current.
If you go in the early morning, assuming the floodgates are closed and they are not generating the flow is very very low and you can walk up and down the bank quite a bit. The area is very rocky, so expect to lose lots of tackle.
You will need a texoma liscense to fish the TX bank below the DAM, but you are not allowed to wade into the water with that license.

Texoma license wont work below the dam. Oklahoma for wading or texas for bank Tx side only.
Keep em tight!

Texoma license wont work below the dam. Oklahoma for wading or texas for bank Tx side only. Absolutely correct. If you step in the water you are in Okla. territory and need an Okla. license. With Texas license you can only bank fish on the Texas side, no wading.

Yep your right only need TX fishing license to fish the TX bank, My bad ... should have looked it up before I posted. Here is the link to the regulations that show how far downstream your TX license will work and also that wading int he water requires an OK license. https://tpwd.texas.gov/regulations/outdo...ing-regulations

Spoke with a game warden walking by the other day and asked the question the wading question. You do NOT need to have a OK license to wade in the water unless you're past the creek or past the halfway point of the river. Go look at the Denison Dam post in Bank Fishing. Someone posted a good photo of the boundaries.
Again, you DO NOT NEED an OK license to wade in the water....

Yes ."If fishing in the (red river) you must have Ok fishing license." A person must have a valid Texas fishing license to fish from the Texas bank from Denison Damdenison_dam.gif to Shawnee Creek (see illustration). An Oklahoma fishing license is required to wade-fish or fish from a boat in these waters. Some GWs say diffent things. I buy year long Ok license to be safe.
Keep em tight!
