My core 100mg is making a clicking noise when u turn the handle. It gets louder when under a load like respooling and keeping the line tight. Think it may be the pinion gear but not sure. Doesn't make the noise when spinning the spool when disengaged. Anyone have any suggestions?

Could be the pinion gear...won't know for sure until you open it up...could have something that come loose

I got to looking thru my spare new curado e parts and put a pinion gear in the core from a set of 200e7 gears and to my surprise, it works. Noise gone, reel working.

What caused the gear to make the noise though I wonder? Was it worn down at all? I had a customer reels that had a similar problem and turns out it was a worn pinion yoke (plastic piece the pinion gear rides on) So hopefully you checked that as well. Im just curious as to the what and why lol

I believe it was the pinion gear. I put the 200e7 pinion in there and noise gone. Ordered a new main gear and pinion for the core so I can have a full set of 7 gears for my curados and citicas. This is just a trial and error/temporary fix lol.

Well if the noise is gone that was likely your issue. I was just curious if you noticed any physical damage on the one you replaced?

I went ahead and swapped the pinion and main gear with a new gearset from shimano. I still noiced a light ticking sound but when I took it out and fished with it, it magically disappeared. Don't know how or why really, but I did notice the pinion teeth did have quite a bit of wear on the ends of it.

If you get a chance id take it apart again and really give the pinion yoke (plastic piece the pinion gear rides on and check for wear on it. If it has any at all you will want to replace it. Could be that the yoke is worn and causing the noise/issue. It can be hard to see the wear too. I had to check one against a new one to really be able to tell it had worn. If you dont grease those yoke's good they can wear like that.
