I just bought a used bass boat but the owner lost the key for the compartment latches. How do I go about getting a key to lock them? Do I have to replace the latches or can a locksmith make a replacement key?

Locksmith. Way cheaper. Some of those latches are upwards of $50 each.

Try North Texas Marine or Cabelas they had spare keys for Perko Latches last time I lost mine.

What brand laches are they? They are either Perko or TH Marine. Send me a PM. I might be able to help you out.

Try your best to get a key. I just bought latches and spent $625 on them.

Well, I have Perko latches in my boat. I recently bought a couple new keyed latches and thought damn, now I'm gonna have to carry 2 different keys....... Wrong..... The key was the same, original locks were from 2007 and il be darn, they are still using the same lock. Guess if I was a thief, I could go to any other boat with Perkos and I could get in there boxes..

Another solution is to install a rod locker bar, problem solved.

that's great for you....but not a good thing to others. Surely it was luck that they fit. Maybe they have a few different patterns for keys and you got lucky? Hopefully.

I do remember once, when I was younger, that the houses on our street were keyed the same by the home builder/realtor. And it was assumed that the new owners would change them out. Most didn't. Haha. It was an"kid thing"'we'd go into all the empty houses and hang out. This was in The Colony. I bet some of those houses still are the same.

Just installed LockRbar alarm system from Tackle Warehouse last week. One of the best investments I've made. My Champion lives under a carport, I been sleeping like a baby ever since. Lock jiggled twice within 10 seconds will make the neighbors ears bleed.

I can't find a brand name anywhere on them. Can someone help identify the brand?

Those are old TH Marine latches. I actually think you can still buy them.

Thanks bbassfishes! That is it. Called them and they want $2.50 per key, minimum order of $10. Can't believe they won't send me a key for free...oh well. Cheaper than replacing or calling locksmith.

Since most of you don't think these locks prevent much, what do y'all use instead to secure your stuff?
