Caught an 8.45 pound bass at Squaw this morning. Her tail was real bloody like she was fanning a bed. Are they already in the spawn there or am I just reading more into it than it is. I haven't fished power plant lakes that much so I don't have a clue. Caught her in 14 foot of water. Any ideas?

Females tales dont get bloody from fanning the male does all the fanning its from dragging the bottom. Yes they should be close to spawning, probably little earlie this year.

They will spawn from now till spring, some will spawn a few times each year on squaw.

I don't know when they spawn, I try and not worry about it. I think a lot spawn pretty deep since the water temps allow it. I have never seen many on beds but I haven't spent much time looking either.

I think they spawn a couple of times a year. When they turned the reactor off first of October they flooded the banks cause the temp went down. Turn the reactor back on, temps go up and they left. When the real winter hits temps go back down and they will spawn again Jan. or Feb. Thats my theory and Im sticking with it.

Why do that get bloody then? Always wondered I have heard some people say that during pre spawn and spawn females will rub up against cover like trees to loosen their eggs up before spawning?

constanly dragging the bottom, from the weight of the eggs, if you watch a female up shallow that tale is very seldom off the bottom.

It's also on a bed for for hours upon hours. Typically a hard bottom too. That's where it comes from
