Most of us really old fisherpersons have heard "that fish bite when the sun and the moon are both visible during the day," - "that fish bite when the cows are standing," - "wind from the east, fish bite the least, but wind from the west, fish bite best." - "when you see wildlife moving on the way to the lake, it will be a good day fishing."
And, I am sure there are hundreds more. Any you want to add or comment for or against?
I fished Fork yesterday - my cows were standing, both the sun and moon were up, and I almost hit two deer near Yantis -- and I still only caught a half dozen aquarium sized bass. DO we need better "old wives?" or do I just suck at bass fishing?

probably had more to do with where you were fishing and what you were using. Water temps dropping, creeks are probably more dirty than main lake, fish prefer cleaner water. Temps have been around 55 degrees so they are starting to move deeper...
End of the day you caught something rather than nothing!!!! Many people catch nothing!

I don't know if those old wives tales always hold true, had my best day on lake sweetwater a couple years ago with an east wind. I did see some deer on the way, but didn't have the cattle in any pasture on the way.

What about when a butterfly lands on your rod? Supposed to be good luck.

Any time I'm on the lake and my wife texts saying she needs me to come home right this minute, I know the bass will immediately start biting.

Wind from the east, the fishing is the least
Fishing is the least for me no matter where the wind is blowing!

for years growing up and fishing with my grandpa he would always tell me the reason he was catching fish and I wasn't was because "I wasn't holding my mouth right",..I would watch and try to see how he was holding his mouth. After many years and growing up a little I finally figured out the position he was trying to describe to me was...."CLOSED".

I don't buy any of that stuff but bringing a net on my boat guarantees no ones catching a fish bigger than a pound or two all day.

When I crappie fish I can't bring my fillet knife to the lake with me! Guarantees I will have no fish to fillet every time!
See you on the lake and have a great day!
