Ok, as much as I have fought "finesse fishing" for the last several years I have to admit I have had some decent trips with a lighter shaky-head and drop-shot. I leave my spinning rod for my canoe trips but it's time to make a small investment in a lighter rod for more finesse bait-casting applications. I have several Dobyns Champion Series rods and love them. For a lesser investment has anyone tried the Dobyns Fury Series particularly the Fury 702 for drop-shots? If not what is your suggestion good value in a Drop-Shot rod? Thanks, 361V.

I have a Dobyns Extreme 702 that I use for drop shotting but Ron @ Reel Time rods makes a fantastic drop shot rod using a Bushido blank that I like better than the Dobyns. The tip of the rod moves with the slightest of bites and it has plenty of backbone. He can make it in either a bait caster or a spinning rod depending on what you like and wrap the guides in whatever color you like.

I am not a prostaffer for these rods, im just recommending this rod because I like it better than the $300+ Dobyns Extreme.

Ron's shop is located @ Popes Landing @ Lake Fork.

Thanks ezbassin, We also have been able to come out with the same blank, but offer it at a price point of $129.00 out the door. This rod will NOT have cork, colored bands or colored flake. This rod will come with all EVA components with AM SS guides. It will also come with our warranty. This rod is meant to reach those that do not wish to pay for the glitz and glitter, but wants a great preforming rod at a reasonable price. Come by the shop and let me show you the difference.

YES their was a guy but he was trying to sale it because he thought it was to stiff I believe it was brand new and he never actually tried it out just shook the rod and made his opinion. The rod is a great drop shot rod if you can get one in your hand and fish with it you will like it.

I tried hard for a couple years to get the 701 to work and the problems are 1) you can't feel the bite as well and 2) not as good hook set. In theory the advantage of a 701 is that they won't drop it as quick. In the end I feel 702 is best for feel, hook set, and still some give if they just mouth it. Several Dobyns tour pros use this approach too. I think the 703 is too stiff for drop shot, I save that for whacky and docks.

I am a dobyns guy.....but they dont make a DS rod that works for me

this rod has the softest tip I have ever used, it allows me to throw a much lighter weight deeper and feel much more

It also doubles as a extra small square bill rod

We all have different opinions, I had this rod to drop shot with along side my Dobyns. I sold this rod because it was not as sensitive as my dobyns. I had the 742 Extreme ,I like this rod but would go with the 702 next time because of the length difference. just my .02

I use a dx742 and it works great, I'm trying to sell it though just because I prefer 7' rods.
