Not a big fan of the A-rig but want to learn to be more open minded and try to fish it properly.

What time of year is best?

I had heard they are great in winter... Is that true?

In whats season or conditions are you most likely to pull out a foul-a-bama rig?

A lot of fish being caught on s A-rig on Fork right now. Find a school of bass with your electronics and you can work em over pretty good with it. Very good fall, winter, and early spring pattern.

Was killing them on Lake O the Pines a couple weeks ago.
Anytime that you find the baitfish really balled up is good for me.

I saw that video yesterday.
I'm sorry but I don't see how it should be titled "How to fish an A-rig in heavy cover" I thought maybe the last part that is blank was just messed up on my PC and was Pack telling his technique or something.
A "how to" video should be instructional.

The how to is use those jig heads of his. That's what makes it fishable in cover versus the traditional open hook style the a-rig started with. As far as retrieve that will vary based on where the fish are as far as if they are suspended or on bottom. Just slow steady retrieve is all you need with it no matter the depth. Right now most fish are on or near bottom. So make a long cast, strip line to let it sink all the way straight down and slow roll it back. Sometimes you really have to slow it down almost dragging it like a c rig. As long as the tails are kicking your good. Lately you can just wind it in though

As others have said, now is the perfect time to start throwing them. The only months out of the year I don't throw an A-Rig are the months of June and July. A lot of people shy away from throwing them in the dog days of Summer, but they shine just as bright in July, August, and September. They have a broad range of time for when they work.
