Hi guys, Hope this hasn't been beat to death lately.

What is a good crappie setup?
I fish mostly for crappie and sandbass in creeks out of my kayak. I have been using an ultralight lately and have had a lot of fun but want to get a nicer setup.

I want to be able to feel soft bites and use small jigs.
I have been looking at the 6 ft tfo signature series light action...

Any suggestions?

It is for sure one we all agree to disagree, but there is no one fits all. I think the feel is much better to stay with med-med rods and use light line. As far as the rod its self, what feels good to you is what you want. Stay away from light, ulight, and fast action and you will be ok.

I'm on the same search right now as I am needing something for jigs in the 6' - 6'-6" range for when I fish bridge pilings and have overhead clearance issues my 10' rods won't allow for. I'll let you know if I come across anything I think might interest you.

I suggest you take a look at BoneHead Tackles 5'6"er. Josh had one with him the other day when I meet up with him. Very nice rod, extremely light weight. I would definitely buy one if I didn't already have to many. LOL

Is there a budget you're trying to stay within for this rod and reel?

Pro Angler all the way. They are very good rods and DO NOT have ceramic eyes that have a tendency to break. Most of the pros on this site use pro angler rods over Bonehead.

Under 200 bucks for the combo

I would think most of the local rod makers paired with a nice reel will do just fine. I have pro anglers but want to get some Bonehead and G Rods.

For value, you can't beat a Pro Angler rod. Enough folks here have testified that BoneHead rods are a good buy. The new G Rods are certainly top of the line rods. For reels, hard to beat a Shimano day in and day out.
