Finally have 2 HDS 10 linked together with structure scan. Was wondering if anyone has any tips on learning to read them and to find fish correctly. I want to start using them to their full advantage. Thanks.

As much as I hate to admit it; sometimes the internet really is your friend. Look on Google and You Tube for lots of info on maximizing and interpreting your new scan.

Look on here too. This gets asked a couple times a week

Youtube has more information on it than you will ever find on this forum. I learned via youtube and T.o.w.

Agree on you tube and time on water. Or, if you want to learn faster hire Clark Reehm. Darold Gleason can get you pointed in the right direction too.

Lots of time on the water. Do a split screen mode with sonar and down image. With them side by side you can learn to identify fish verses structure like trees. You can see fish in the tree branches if the fish are suspended in them. Drive over an area in full side scan mode and look at all the stuff on bottom. You will be amazed at what you see. Wait till you see a bunch of tires on bottom. Looks like fruit loops down there. LOL

I highly recommend you spend one day with an electronics guide like Clark Reehm or Slade Daughtry depending on which one is closer (Rayburn vs Fork). For more info on Clark's program look at his website http://www.eliteangleracademy.com

You'll learn more in 8 hours than you'll learn in 20 days on the water. You still need to be familiar with your graphs before you go. The better you are with them, the more you will get outta their "class". So don't forego the YouTube and Google searches. Once they give you their head start then time on the water (lots of it) is all you will need.

I agree with others - Have learned the most about set up & actual bass ID from numerous guide trips. Mark Pack, James Caldemyer, Lance Vick, and last week from Darold Gleason. I know, it cost a few bucks to do this, but had a fabulous time doing it, and now, I have the utmost confidence in screen interpretation. Pretty cool to have one of these guys SHOW you what active bass (and/or good structure) looks like, then catch fish from that info.

So I agree to get help, But go by known structures like docks and bridge pilings and look close you will start to learn quick what your looking at. Look at the shadows that show something is off the bottom. A big fish is a grain of rice. Get into some sand bass and watch them STREAK across the screen. Look in trees for light spots thats fish. There great for finding structure to fish on even if you don't see fish. Enjoy
