I know it's supposed to be rainy and cold, but I'd like to make a Palestine trip this weekend. I usually don't think twice about making a trip by myself, but I'm 9 days after back surgery, and still gimpy enough that I don't think I should be going alone. I can take my boat, but will probably need help with getting it in and out of the garage. I'll likely be pretty worthless with the net too, as my bending over isn't working too well right now.
I haven't made a Palestine trip yet this fall, but caught fish pretty well last year. Pepop's suggestion last week was exactly what worked best for me last year, so I suspect I can find some fish. None of the usual nearby suspects seem interested in a cold trip with a gimp. Anyone else care for a back seat (or have an empty back seat) for a Palestine trip? I'm free any day after tomorrow this weekend.

I would take you up on that, but will not be in. Going out on Palestine after back surgery, you are a better man than me. I've had back surgery myself, and the jarring and bouncing your back is gonna take is not gonna be good. Take it easy and be careful. It makes my back hurt just thinking about it...

Bud, you might want to talk to Pepop about the wind on Pal, it's not a good lake if the wind is blowing. There is no place to hide out of the wind most of the time.

Bud, this is just me, & some people (keyboard) think I'm a wimp, but I won't try to fish the big bridge in my boat if the wind is stronger than around 12 mph out of the North or South as that part of the lake is just wide open to some pretty big rollers from either direction & all it takes is a 12-15 S or N wind to put waves over my bow & lift the TM out of the water on a regular basis. Of course I'm awful heavy in the nose of my boat. A normal size guy may not have the same trouble but the waves will still be the waves, making it hard to feel anything besides the most aggressive THUMP's! It stops being fun for me in those conditions & I would imagine it would be pretty hard on a tender back. Now, having said all that, I have a trip planned with Jason Burton for in the morning to take my older brother out (who I haven't seen in 3 years) & if Jason gets up in the morning and thinks his 21' Triton can handle it, we'll probably go. The fishing is definitely picking up at the bridge and it's been my experience the tougher the conditions the better the bite. So Bud, come on if you must, good luck & be safe out there. I just might see you!

PS Bud, if you go, fish a purple & chartreuse jig about 15' deep, SLOWLY around the bridge pillars. Viktor7 & his uncle took 31 this morning in a pretty hard wind on that pattern. They were in a 21' Champion but he said the wind was TOUGH!

Thanks, Vernon. I won't go at all if the wind is too bad.

Hope you get into some bigguns Bud What type of procedure did you have done to your back??? We're leaving midday Saturday to go to Houston as I have an appt with another neurosurgeon for another MRI and evaluation to see if he can find why I'm in pain and if there is anything he can suggest to get me a little relief.

It wasn't major surgery. I've had cratered discs in my lower back for many years. The worst, combined with an arthritic spike on a vertebrae, were pinching my L5 nerve. They chopped on the disc and shaved on the vertebrae. They were emphatic that it won't fix all of my back problems, but it should help with the worst.

I would have been there this weekend but for the weather. If it wasn't so far I would meet you there and help you out. I need to get up there and get my jigs from pepop anyway.
Hope you do well and don't get hurt or wet.
Randy I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in!
