Hey guys, I just wanted know who out there has a 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, or early 1980s outboard of 35hp or less on their boat to go fishing.
I have 1984 15hp Evinrude that runs smoothly and very dependable. I have also taken out my 1970 johnson 25hp and had some good running time as well. Once in a while I will bring a 1957 Evinrude 3hp motor to troll around.
There is nothing wrong with taking a good 1967 Evinrude 6hp and slowly cruising to your favorite fishing spot.
No, I am not selling anything. I just want people to realize that these older motors can still be a good means of getting off the banks and getting to better fishing spots.

Don't say that to a bass guys. They think if you can't do 80 MPH getting to the next spot you ain't fishing. I'm sure that testosterone factors in there somewhere.

I have a couple oldies. A 1.5 cruise and carry that i use for my bass raider. Don to be a 4hp merc. And a 100hp 71 evenrude I picked up for no apparent reason. I'm on the look out for a 20-40hp oldie now. I just picked up a Smithcraft tin boat and need to fix it up.

For the past 7 years I have collected a few motors from Johnson,Elgin,Evinrude, Gale, Mercury, Scott Atwater, and British Seagulls. The motor from 25hp and under are pleasure to work on the mechanically restore. Those old motors purr like new. A lot of the of ignition, carburetor, and impellers parts are still available.
This winter I will be working on a 1916 Evinrude rowboat motor 2hp.
There are resources and information to get these old gem going and dependable. You don't need to break the bank to go fishing. The fish don't care what type of boat or motor you have. Please don't think I'm knocking down the new boats and motors, I just wanted to encourage guys who have dad's or grandpa's old fishing motor to try and revive them.

I used a johnson seahorse that come to find out was a late 40's model on one of those 10 ft pelicans from academy, my neighbor in Ingleside on the bay was a super hoarder and had it leaned up against a tree wraped up in vines and weeds. Took it apart, soaked everything in parts cleaner in a tote, cans and cans of carb cleaner, half a million qtips, reassembled and it ran like a sewing machine.

BODA, if you still have that motor, I probably have a service manual that I send you if you want to get it going again. Those old motors have a ton of fishing and fun time stories to tell. Thanks guys for sharing your stories!

I have a 1965 Johnson 9.5 HP that I use on a 14' Lonestar Boat. The motor starts on the first pull and runs like a charm.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles
