I am just checking to see if the gate is still locked at Riverside Park at the dam at Lake Whitney. I was there a week ago on Friday and the gate was locked. I have tried to find a phone number to call and ask if it was still closed but can't find a number. It is a long drive from Fort Worth to drive up to a locked gate. Hopefully they will open it up so we can get in to fish. They have been releasing water for several weeks so I am sure there are some fish that need to be caught!

You might see if you can get ahold of one of the rangers at main office.

Thanks for the tip Robert Hunter. I have tried several numbers and found one where I actually talked to a real live person. They said Riverside Park is still closed.

Now I can call and not make a trip to find out the gate was locked.

We're both sides closed? You could get in on the other side of the river where the wall is I don't remember even seeing a gate to close over there.

You are correct Robert, The Southside of the dam is still open and there was not a gate on that side.

Did they at least give you a reason as to why they had it closed. I think you would need a winch to launch a yak on that other side lol.

I talked to a fellow today and he said the park would be closed for a while. They did it for the safety of the kayakers and fishermen. He said some people we kayaking and fly fishing. They got out of their kayaks to wade and the water came up and the fishermen were separated from their kayaks. I will keep monitoring it and calling to see if I can find out when they open the park again. Sure is putting a damper on some good fishing.

Yea that's too bad people with not a lot of sense ruin a good thing for others. Anywhere that is subject to rapid rise and waters mainly tailwater you have to absolutely make certain to keep your stuff tied up and close to you I'm not sure why one would wade that far away from their kayak at that lol. Good luck hope you get on them. I have not been down there in almost a month I've been too busy with deer hunting and a little fishing lol:) it had been really good when they were running water.
