Take advantage of the nice weather today before the front blowing in tomorrow to do some crappie fishing. Fish the dam area, using Lake Fork baby shad. The crappie are in 27 to 32 feet of water. The area with brush piles does the best. I also caught they slow rolling (stop and going) the jig back to the boat. The colors that work on Lavon for me has been Albino Shad (sickle tail or pintail), Magic Shad (sickle tail or pintail) and Blue Herring. Jig head = 3/32 oz. Weight at the bottom = 1/4 oz.

Nice mess of fish. I've never tried drop shot for crappie but I can sure see where the weight would help geting a jig down to 32 fow. I'll have to remember that next time I'm on a deep lake.

Just a loop knot. Add the weight to the bottom. Learn from some great fishmen out at Lake Fork. Similar to drop shot, but the short leader allow the jig to swim freely.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
