Alright guys whats your thoughts , fished Friday and motor done fairly well but used 35 gallons of gas only going 20 miles or ,day 2 I went out and only went 10 or 15 miles idling through timber and burnt 25 gallons of gas then I figured out why had three fuel lines shooting gas and one severely weather cracked had a buddy fix all the lines at the ramp and went out to catch bait for the next day drove about 1 mile to get to a cove and motor done well on the way back to the ramp I noticed a very distinct knocking noise and slowed down and eased on in to the trailer , I was in a 2 day tournament so I went ahead and launched it Sunday with the intentions of just putting around close to the ramp in timber well this day its missing and wont go over 6 mph we barely made it back to the trailer. Finally got around to doing a compression test today expecting the worse and was surprised all 4 cylinders read between 120 and 132 what would be next steps ? It is a 1979 evinrude 115 hp scared

Sounds like you could have a lot of carbon buildup with that much compression. I do not think those motors have but 90-100Lbs compression. I would look for fuel dripping in the carbs of the motor. Have seen a enrichment solenoid turned wrong or just leaking fuel by on the diaphragm. Could have got a piece of line inside while changing those old fuel lines. Many things could be wrong. Start by checking each cylinder for firing. Then check each cylinder for hitting while running pulling one sparkplug wire at a time. If you find a cylinder not firing suspect coil, not hitting suspect flooding from carb or solenoid.

Thank you Gary I will try that today , couple things I should note are my buddy did pull the carbs to gain easier access to bottom fuel lines but he has a lot of knowledge working on 2stroke engines but was also kinda on the spot with several guys standing around talking as he done them also funny you mentioned lower compression because when I first went and bought this engine I done a compression test and two on the right were 100 and 2 on the left were 92 or so but I chalked it up to different compression Guage and the fact that engine was warm when I originally checked.

And I checked firing yesterday and one was firing much weaker then the others was still sparing on the plug but not jumping a good spark to the block while close

Check and clean all of the grounds on the coils and power packs. If fire doesn`t get better change that coil.

Update top 2 coils do nothing when pulling while idling so apparently it's running on 2 cylinders only. This is good news I hope and means the knocking was do to bad coils.

Are the sparkplugs with no spark on the same side of the motor? Did you clean all of the grounds? I would clean everywhere you have a wire connector like one with 2 orange wires. Their are 3 different connectors around the blue powerpack on the starboard side and the same on the port side. See the black wire at the bottom of the blue powerpack, clean it and the one on the other side powerpack real good and test it for fire again. Try this and let me know what you find.

The one that had weak spark yesterday is one of the 2 that are keeping it running , so I'll clean all the connections with sandpaper tomorrow and try again. I tried to simply switch the bottom coil to the top without changing orange wires and apparently power pack didn't like that motor was back firing kinda and wouldn't start hammer

And both of them are firing if I put a plug in the boot and place it close to block

But they have to have good spark, like jumping 3/8ths are more.

Update, found out why they weren't doing anything . Fuel line was kinked so top carb wasn't getting fuel . I also cleaned all the connections for good measure. Still concerned was this my only problem ? Could starving for fuel cause knocking ? I checked compression again after warming up and left side is 120 120 right side is 130 130

Just keeps getting worse ! Had it running well in driveway on hose took it to the lake back it off trailer and knocking noise ,still tried to power up and go and it kinda clanked like lower unit was slipping out of gear while knocking whole time. Turned back around and headed back in to trailer throttled up again and it revved but wasn't really moving much another clank and it shut down. Either it's locked up or lower unit somehow has it binded up. Also worth mentioning is it does have a bent prop shaft but didn't seem to be affecting it when I first took it out on the lake after motor swap.
