Has anyone had any luck on polishing an aluminum boat, or getting the fade off?

You might try looking at the Airstream Trailer sites. They have explicit procedures for polishing their old trailers. The aluminum might be a little different, but most of the steps will be applicable to your boat.

Another option or pre polish method - get some aluminum cleaner - the kind they use on aluminum truck trailers. I know that ZEP makes it ( http://www.superkleendirect.com/search.aspx?find=Zep+a+lume), but there may be others. It is a solution of Hydroflouric Acid. It is a spray on rinse off type deal. Follow directions to the letter!!! It will CLEAN the Aluminum to like new shiny silver condition -not polished -but will get rid of the black stuff you are about to rub off if you polish it. Try it, real easy, and will look like a NEW boat - clean, bright Aluminum. You may decide not to polish.

We sell a product called Zing, 26.99 gal and ToonBright 21.99 quart concentrate. They are an aluminum acid. You have to be very careful at the length of time you let it set in. But if you follow the directions it does a pretty good job. But seeing how your in Stephenville, try your local Truck (18 wheeler) wash facility. they have a similar acid, thats what the truckers use to clean there aluminum tanks.

One word of caution Hydrofloric acid will eat bone (calcium) if it gets into your system. Read the caution statement on product and wear proper protective gear otherwise you might just end up without bone in fingers and arms.
