Seafoam might help some. Does it sound like it's "coughing" or spitting at idle sometimes? Mine did that and I replaced the head gaskets and cleaned the carbs. Glad I did, too...one of the head gaskets was getting bad.

If you do it ( it's easy)...make sure you replace the little rubber tubes in the water jacket while you're in there. I forgot what they're called, but they ARE necessary for proper cooling.

Yes it does , almost kills engine but it picks right back up...on that head gasket note I did notice a drip coming from the left side of engine that I assumed was a leaking gasket

Buy a repair manual to get the headbolt torque specs and tightening pattern.

You have a lean sneeze run it with the Sea Foam. I would not just jump in and try to change head gaskets. Too many problems can jump up, like the head bolts being stuck. You can run the motor on a cuff or at the lake with a sparkplug out, cover the sparkplug hole about 6in. away with cardboard while running. If you are getting water it will bead onto the cardboard. Do each sparkplug one at a time. It is normal to see a sparkplug with a chalk white coating on the cylinder with the water leak.

I found a tiny spot of rust ( miniscule) on one spark plug on my old 'Rude....that's what prompted me to go ahead and swap out the head gaskets. Besides, I had nothing better to do that weekend. smile

'Glad the seafoam is helping a little.
