Heading up to my uncles place in Frankston to do a little hunting next weekend and am thinking about dragging my boat up there to go hit the lake Friday morning as a little surprise trip for my dad. I have only fished the lake once in the last 15 years and it wasn't for crappie so I am really just shooting in the dark this trip. Hoping for just a little insight that might put a few fish in the box for supper.
Are the fish this time of year on the bridge pilings, in standing timber, or even in the creeks ? I have scoured this site and see nice reports coming off of brush piles, but with no real knowledge of the lake my chances of finding brush much less brush holding fish seems pretty slim.
If brush piles are the only ticket right now are there any other species that would be easier to target this time of year? I enjoy fishing for anything that will tug a line as long as I can get on the water and spend some time with Dad away from the madness of everyday life. Thanks in advance for any info you guys could share.
Mike

I'll be out there in the morning around 8 and will be mainly fishing the bridge, 15' deep SLOWLY moving tandem jigs (with purple & chartreuse in them) from column to column. Good luck!

Thank you so much sir. I had to edit my post because it's next weekend I'm coming up that way and we'll be fishing Friday morning. I have a lot of chartreuse variants, but nothing with purple in it. Guess I'll have to sweep the local tackle stores and see what I can come up with.

What works best for me is pitchng over a brushpile and dead sticking! We killed em on Thermoclines tadpole in purple passion and pearl ice with a pink jig head! If you fish with that purple passion tadpole, make sure ya hold on to your rod extra tight because they "HAMMER" it violently!!!
Katchin krappie...doin surgeries(filleting)...and givin hott grease baths until krunchy and golden brown is what it's all about!!!

When I fished Palestine, I was on a guide and pitching a foot over the brushpile and holding the rod still as possible got me more bites than any other method! Check it out...how bout I catch a back seat with you and you show me how its really done!!! Deal ???

And definitely hit Pepop up for some jigs. He lives over in Chandler and will hook you up with what they are biting.

Well hopefully the weather will hold out where we can make a trip out of it. I haven't fished strictly for crappie in some time and am excited about getting to go after seeing some of the reports. Pepop is tying me up a batch of jigs and several guys here have been very helpful with information as far as techniques. Hopefully I'll have a good report for you guys.
