Yamaha has identified the potential for certain
VF250LA cylinder block assemblies, produced
November 2009 through November 2010, to prematurely
wear under certainconditions. Aspart of Yamahasgoal to provide the
highest level of customer satisfaction, Yamaha will cover the cost of
parts and labor to replace the cylinder block assembly
as a one-time goodwill gesture. Yamaha is notifying all registered owners of affected
units by mail. A copy of this letter is included in this
bulletin. The customer should take this letter along with the affected
outboard to an authorized Yamaha dealer.
The Warranty Authorization (W.A.) process will be
utilized to request parts and labor for this ServicePer-Bulletin
Campaign.

This is directly from the service bulletin. Might answer a few questions for y'all.

Yes received letter as well, comes with a one year warranty. My warranty expires in June 2016, so if block is replaced in December they will use your existing warranty plus new warranty to make 1 year warranty. OMG

Didn't know it came with a 1 year warranty after it has been replaced! That's even better news!

Just wait until Dec 1, 2017 to have the work done. Problem solved.

Mine has never had an issue. IMO, Yamaha is being Proactive.

Mercury had their share of blown powerheads when the Optimax's first came out. 1999 - 2001 they were referred to as OptiPops.

Not to start a debate. I have owned 20 Mercs and 8 Yams thru the years. They are both great motors.

I agree Ken...good move on Yamaha's part for sure.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Mine was made Nov '11 and put on my ranger in march '12. Am I going to get a notice too?

Maybe. You would have most likely received the letter by now. Call your dealer and give them your serial number.

I got the "this is not a recall" letter last week too. Haven't owned a SHO in three years. I guess the guy that bought it never transferred the warranty. Oh well?!
