I'm wanting to go Saturday but the north wind is predicted to blow. Is there anywhere I can launch on the east side and fish?

I do not like Rayburn when the wind gets up. I had a bad experience several years ago. With that being said, I agree that Caney would be a good place to launch and fish with a strong North wind.

There is a Forest Service ramp in 5 Fingers. Protected from strong North wind and a good area to fish for the entire day without getting on the main lake. Have not launched there in a few years, but it was an OK ramp last time I used it.

C5: Bayou Recreation Area
Located off FM 3127, 2 miles west of FM 705
One-lane boat ramp
No fee required
Open all year
Operated by the US Forest Service (936) 639-8501

5 fingers ramp best option with hard nw wind. Monterey is another one that gives you limited access to canyons and pophers

Yep...what Jaret said. Or Caney isn't too bad of an idea but you're going to be stuck in Caney all day.

15-25mph winds NNE (National Weather Service)
Not a good time to be out on Rayburn if you are out there just for the fun of it.
Gust will be 35mph and that will create some real nice waves out in the middle of ol' Sam.

Sometimes after I leave my home in Orange heading north to Rayburn, if the wind is blowing pretty hard, I drive on over to Toledo and fish in Six Mile. Also there is Lowes Creek Marina ramp and you can fish north side of Lowes. There are lots of places to fish and not have to get on the main lake. But as already stated, you can launch at Caney or 5 Fingers if you still want to hit Rayburn.

According. To my app for Zavalla. I see wind from the NNE 4-15mph. You can run anywhere on Rayburn.

I always double their numbers 8-30 was my guess but NNE will not be that bad. Just be careful and run a 20' boat.

It doesn't matter north or south, East or west. The wind will blow up or down that lake whichever way it started from and it will get nasty.

North wind is not near as bad as a Northwest wind. Same about a South isn't as bad as an Southeast. Normally takes 4 hours of 20mph North to make it start rolling.

P.S. ill fight a south wind before any of em! Everyone be careful out there!
