Any feedback back on using weedless jigs for crappie in Brushpiles? Do you think coloring the weedguard would make a difference? Full guard or only a couple of bristles?

Used to fish with Cooter (CreamLevelCreekKennels on here) a lot before moving back to OK. He used weedless jigs all the time. He didn't get hung up as much as I did but, he never caught as many fish as I did either....but, he couldn't catch crappie with dynomite!! ....just sayin....hehehe

I've been using the soft plastic weed guards recently, and really like them. Got them at Bass Pro. Gonna pick up some more from Josh w/ BoneHead Tackle Monday. They work for me.

Hey,Hey,Hey !

I couldn't ever get use to you trolling over brush piles at the same speed as I ski. My jig was always breaking water, until I started using my 6oz duck decoy weights to hold the jig down. But I do use the weedless jig heads when fishing plastic bodies. We fish more brush piles than anything else, and I feel that when you hang up in a pile, you shake the limb or structure trying to get your jig out or breaking off, you scare off the crappie. Just my opinion. With the weedless jigs, we fish deep in the structure or brush piles without hang ups.

But I have learned by fishing with Okie Bob that there are Olympic Swimming Crappie that can catch jigs at whatever speed you troll at... It is a real experience to fish with Okie Bob, and learn this Speed Trolling Technique. Hoping to get up to Oklahoma for another lesson very soon.

Keith

I use weedless Jigheads 100% of the time. Hand pours 1/16oz with a #2 hook & full weed guard. I didn't care for any of the store bought brands.

Here is some info were we discussed this before.
