Well, it finally happened this past weekend. My motor spit the bit on Rayburn, and I was a long way from the trailer. Split fuel line dumping fuel everywhere. Headed out on the trolling motor, but sure wasn't going to make it the distance. I keep an orange construction flag in my storage like the guys at the road construction sites. I took it off the stick, and put snaps on the corners so I could snap it to the eyes of my flippin' stick. It worked like magic. I was mid-way out of Veach and the first boat that passed by gave us a tow to Caney. Said they would have never noticed us if not for the flag. The flags are $4.95 at Home Depot, and worth every penny. Glad I had it. Get one, and hope you never need to use it.

I'd also like to send out a special thanks for 2 fine groups of people. To the family of hunters that towed us from Veach to Caney, and to the guy and his son that gave me a ride around from Caney to my truck at Castle Boykins. Fine people all. Neither would take my money. I offered both groups $100.00, and they absolutely refused. I've done it before, and I'll do it again - help folks on the water - some day it will be your turn.

I broke down yesterday and from a distance even with the cowling of the motor people can't see you need help. Was going to be a long ride back on the trolling motor. Your suggestion sounds like a good plan

Thanks for sharing Bryan O. Not a bad idea. I've got some orange flags, think I'll do some modification so I can do the same if it happens to me... AGAIN! Been there and done that, fortunately others were around to give me a tow. I've helped other too and I think it is our responsibility to take care of someone in distress and never take money... just paying it forward!
