I had a neighbor complain about my boat sitting in my drive way. He wrote a letter saying he would have city tow the boat because it looked "ugly" in our neighborhood. He was trying to sell his house so I respectfully put it behind my house on the days I wasn't working on it. Well, my worth ethic must have pissed him off. I worked on the boat almost every single day for about 3 months to get it lake-worthy (it is an older boat so it took me awhile). This dude would drive up and down the street, of course in his convertible sports car, yelling at me to get the boat out of our neighborhood…. I would just be polite and inform him that it was on private property and that the boat will be gone and parked at the lake once I finish giving it some TLC… (a lot of TLC)…. He didn't care. He just wanted it gone. So, one day, I tried making friends with him and I asked him if he had ever fished and he said no. So I asked him if he would ever want to go fishing with me once I got the boat finished…. He said "I would never trust that ugly looking thing" I just laughed. I guess he didn't want to be friends. Then he said, "fishing is for poor people that can't pay for their own dinner. Other than that, it is pointless and a waste of time"… I was being polite and nice to the man until this point… He crossed the line. I called him about being a stuck-up, inconsiderate, and single-minded POS… I had to have a buddy pull me away from the situation and calm me down before things escalated.. That is the last time I ever talked to the "neighbor".

…Well a few weeks later I got home from a family vacation and found a big ole dent in the side of the boat. Looked like I rammed a boulder cruising about 50 mph. I have camera's outside my house, but unfortunately, they weren't facing the boat (which they are now). I know the guy must have took a sledge hammer or something to the boat when I was out of town…. I really don't have the expenses to fix the damages right now. I am just going to have to bank-fish until I save up the money. Just my luck on my first boat… I didn't press charges because I had no evidence it was him. I saw him drive by real slow a few times with a big smirk on his face. Honestly, I am just shocked. Who would do something like that? I don't mind if the guy doesn't like me, but causing damage to someone else's property and project.. That is just messed up. I still can't wrap my head around it and it has been a few weeks. I guess it was my mistake for leaving it out in the open when I was out of town but what a d*ck move on this guys part.

Sorry for the rambling…

MORAL OF THE STORY- non-fisherman can be so ignorant sometimes…

Has anyone else had a situation like this or is it just me? I would love to hear some other stories about people like this. Also, any advice on what I should do?

Don't move your boat-
Make sure cameras are aimed at said boat-
Put large sign up in your yard about this neighborhood having vandalism issues -
See what that does to his home values-

Yeah, do what Steveiam said. I would never live in a subdivision for reasons like this. I know it isn't an option for most of those living in big cities. My boat is always parked in front of the house. My Ex Girlfriend hated it and said it was the biggest eye sore. Needless to say I have a new girlfriend. fish

I don't know what I'd do without fishing and I love having a boat but sometimes it's just about getting out of the house and finding peace. Don't let this guy push you around.

I wanted to clarify to the "no boat on the street" crowd that if he was in an hoa or had city rules
Against this I'm assuming the other guy would have already went that route -

What a great guy you have for a neighbor. What he didn't realize is the fact your boat will now be there longer. Idiot.

Put a Registered Sex Offender sign in your front yard. See how that helps him sell the house.

They don't even have to be a non-fisherman to be Ignorant. Hopefully the prick will sell his house so you don't have him as a neighbor anymore.

hang in there

I'm all for fighting back the ignorance, but even I am not willing to go that far!

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

clandestine night mission with roundup. He has weeds in his yard right? Maybe his entire lawn is weed infested? How can he sell a house with weed infested lawn! smile smile I'd leave the boat right where it is! Who knows, the person who buys it may like to fish! smile

Use the sprayer and spell out F--- Y-- on the lawn. Takes about a week for it to show up.
