I have a Minn Kota Maxxum 80lb 24v bow mount. It shut off on the water after contacting some weeds. I couldn't get it to spin again on the water or after I got home. It spun once on continuous, and never spun again. The next morning I went to check it out. It worked like a top! I checked all the wire conections from the batteries to the main board. Everthing looks ok. The online tec seems to think I over heated it in the weeds. However it has done this a couple of times before without contacting anything. It always started working after a minuite or two. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

My nephew's did this if you ran it on high for more than a minute or two. It would blow the circuit breaker on the battery. As long as you had it on a lower setting it would run all day.

Could be one of two or three things. First, if you have an auto reset breaker, could be it, or could be a bad connection on the wiring/plug configuration, allowing it to heat up under a load, then the motor runs when the connection cools. Unless you took every connection loose and visually inspected (including the connections at or in the plug), just "looking" over them will not tell you the shape they are in. Could also be a bad armature, line behind the prop or a bad battery not holding the load, causing a voltage drop.

Batteries are in good shape, but I did fish for 8 hours. It has done this before after only 4 hours. The armature should be ok. I spun the prop by hand with no results. the breakers never blew. I suppose I should take all of the wires loose, and clean, and tighten everything. Is the auto reset located in the main board? Could it be weak?

You're assuming a lot of things when you say "should be". Take a voltage reading on each battery after a day's fishing before putting it on a charger. If they are not real close to the same, you have a bad battery. Unless you've had someone that knows what they're looking at, you don't know what shape the armature is in. Spinning the prop by hand means nothing except that you were lucky the motor didn't start. The breaker is located close to the battery -- there is not one in the control board. As I stated, there are several things that can cause this problem, but I encourage you to make sure it's not something in the wiring/batteries (trolling motor supply) before you start tearing into the trolling motor.

there is a heat sensor in front of the brushes in the motor head. Go on line or contact M K for help .

I have been in hundreds of lower units for MinnKotas and don't know (nor have ever seen) of a heat sensor in front of the brushes. Where do you get your information?

Used it this past weekend for 9 hours. I had no issues. I took one of the bolts out of the motor. A small amount of water came out. About about enough to fill a bottle cap.

you need to take it to somebody and get new seals put in it.

Shouldn't have any water in it -- none. If water came out, it got in somewhere. Either bad seals or a cracked shaft. It needs to be fixed.
