Got notified today that all boat ramps in the vicinity of Chaney Point are closed until further notice to treat Giant Salvinia. I noticed it a few weeks ago and it is truly amazing how fast this stuff grows. There may be other areas, this came from my landlord at Secret Haven.

This stuff is no joke. It has covered Lake Bisteneau in Louisiana. Drawdowns every winter trying to get rid of the stuff. Caddo Lake has an abundance also. This weed almost doubles daily. Very hard to kill, even if left out of water for long periods of time, just add water it comes back to life.

I've never seen it back there but I knew what it was the minute I saw it. There were 8 or 9 ft patches all the way back the creek. I took my kayak all the way back and saw it. They are going to poison it out - hope it works and doesn't do too much collateral damage. Sucks!!!!

I have a friend who lives on Lake Bisteneau. He took a bunch of it out of the water around his dock and put it in his yard. This was in Oct. The next spring he thought he'd use it for compost in his garden. About a week later it was growing like crazy after sitting out on the ground all winter. You can't kill the stuff.

They do have a beetle that eats it just don't know how effective it is yet. Luckily it doesn't grow well in open clean water or Tx lakes would be doomed

We'd have to have hydrilla to worry about it... but I'm sure it will finish off what little grass we have trying to come back.

With the TP&W so adamant that its bad then I trust them its bad. I will say I catch fish out of it at Caddo. I initially was under the impression fish would not use it but out there they do.

Hope they get control of it and hope they can manage it. I will do my part by cleaning my boat etc like I have been.

I wonder if fisherman just carried a small sprayer of full strength round up and sprayed any isolated patch they saw if it would kill it?
Of course with TPWD approval.
