got a new to me boat that takes on a lot of water, I have to turn the bilge pump on once an hour for a couple of minutes, looked over the hull and cant find any damage, I am thinking it is from the sealant around the holes in the transom(live well, live well pump and two other hoses that I haven't traced down where they are going) what is the best product to seal these areas with? I thought it might be a cracked hose but at this point I do not know. Anyone have any suggestions to how to find the leak?

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst

as a new boat owner i had a situation where i thought i had a leak. So to find the leak i simply filled the boat with water on my garage and then looked where the water was coming out from the boat. turned out to be that the plug was not tight enough.

if its a fitting type leak, 3M 4200 Fast Cure Marine Sealant will do it..

most any Marine dealer will have it, plus Academy here carries it...

I thought it might be the plug I replaced them with new plugs and it is still taking on water, I am leaning towards the fittings even if it isn't a fitting issue it would be piece of mind to replace the sealant

This is about as simple as it gets, it goes out the same place it comes in.

put some water in the boat until you can see where it is coming out makes it very simple

Make sure to check all hoses and connections for livewells.

Fill the livewells, sounds like a hose connection problem.

put RED food coloring in the water,in the insides, boat helps see it better.

Put the boat in the water at the ramp start looking at everything in the bilge and you will find it. I have seen several leaks where the hose connects to a pump because the plastic connection was cracked or broken. Some aerator pumps have replaceable motor cartridges and will leak from an o-ring.

+1, I had a rat chew a hole through a hose once. Fortunately it was not to big that the bilge could not keep up and I was able to fish. Fill the livewells and check and then the hull or vice versa. If you get water in the hull from the livewells then it is either a hose or connection.
