Last week the water temp was 50 give or take a few degrees. The wind was 15-20 mph two days in a row under cloudy skies. I hadn't fished the lake in 20 years and didn't know the bottom, so we decided to survey the bottom using sonar. The lake has one of the strangest bottoms I've encountered - 8-9' average across most of the middle and 6-7' near shorelines.

The pads are still in good shape within 30 yards of one shoreline and we fished in 7' near pad pockets and large gaps. Incredible quality and quantity those two days! Most crappie in two schools were over 10.5", many over 11", one 13". That's big by NYS average.

Went yesterday and caught only a few pickerel and yellow perch in that area. Zip for crappies the entire day. The water temp dropped to 47 degrees in the last five days so maybe that and the cold front with blue bird skies relocated them. It certainly didn't affect the pickerel bite because I caught them in 4-5' of water all around the shallower south end and the strikes were hard!

Supposed to rain and warm a little by Thurs. Might try again for those big slabs, but not hopeful.

If there is any kind of creek channel that is a little deeper, that's where they will be.
