After a break of almost 25 years (what the heck was I thinking?) I started fishing again. Went out to the Guadalupe river at Cypress Bend Park in New Braunfels early this morning in search of a few bass, and wound up with this little guy instead. He hit an antique broken back minnow lure from my regular fishing days.

The Guadalupe is a beautiful river, lined with tall cypress trees and allegedly filled with bass, sunfish and sometimes trout. At the very least I knew I'd enjoy being out in nature and have a healthy walk along the bank, but within 10 minutes of getting my line wet I was reminded of the thrill of getting a fish on. After taking the photo I gently placed him back in the river and watched as he swam away.

Although it was the only thing I caught this morning I came home with a smile on my face and plans to hit a few more spots later in the week.

Thanks! I've already got a sizable wish list going.

If I ain't fishing, I ain't happy.
But mostly I'm happy.
I love being retired, the check is in the mail.

Thanks banker! It'll take me a while to figure out what the bass are biting on, but that's part of the fun. I went to Landa Park afterwards and tried to seduce a few bass near the gazebo, but didn't get any hits.

Good luck on the bass there. hammer That water is super clear with plenty of minnows. I have seen some big bass there but getting em to bite is next to impossible. bang I have got lucky and caught a few nice ones there over the years. coolio

Right now my casting skills are so rusty I'll have to fly fish in private...in other words, it ain't pretty!
Had a cheap bamboo fly rod when I was in high school and didn't yet have the patience to learn proper casting techniques. Now there are so many instructional videos out there that I'm tempted to give it another go.

Yep, if we can see them they can probably see us. I had one small bass follow my lure back to the bank without striking.

Yes Sir sometimes it takes catching that one fish to fire up the fishing desires. Nice fish.

Nice post and nice fish. It's always a good feeling, feeling the thump of a good bite and catching a nice fish. Good job.
