I currently have a 2011 Yamaha 250 sho and thinking of getting a new Mercury 250 pro xs. Have any of you guys done this and was it a pretty big hassle. I know the controls will have to be changed out, but still lots cheaper than a new rig. I am located in Longview and wondering who you guys recommend? Thanks Michael

I have never done business with him, but I hear good things about Billy Sartin at Lake Fork. You might also check Jaco's Marine website. They tend to have good Mercury pricing. You can get it shipped and have a local install it.

Jacos Marine in Tennessee is probably going to be the cheapest you will find. Call them and talk to them about it.

Going from one brand to another is not a big deal, just change controls and add a smartcraft monitor.
Call Billy Sartin at Sartin Marine 903-383-7726. Open Tuesday thru Saturday.
Billy and his crew are the best in the business.

Why not flash the sho to a 300? That's an upgrade you will really feel.

Isn't that moving from a four stroke to a two stroke? Do you have a plan for the oil resevoir? I would recommend a remote fill!

My fishing buddy just bought a 200 Mercury from Jacos marine for about $14000.
They shipped it to Service Marine near Fork and they installed it. Chuck & Perry do great work and he had his boat back in less than 2 weeks.

I went from a Etec 250HO to a Merc 250 Pro XS on my boat this past spring. Diamond Sports did the swap. Was not bad at all. Expect to have to buy a few cables and such and you might have to replace some gauges in your dash. Maybe a new throttle cable as well. Just depends on the boat itself. I had the Level 1 Merc Monitor installed.

I don't know the answer to this but isn't a new 250 Yamaha an upgrade and you don't have to buy new cables. Is the new mercury that much better than yamaha

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm not sure if the mercs are any better than the yamahas, just hear a lot less about mercs blowing power heads. I have several dealers giving me a price. I guess if it's more than I want to pay I'll probably sale my rig, which I really like (2011 Stratos 210 Elite). My motor has around 45 hours on a new power head and a year warranty still left. Did you blow a 2011 sho without the update? Motor should have manufacture date. Have some faith in the yamaha. I see equal problems between the sho and merc.
