Is anyone changing out hooks on the Megabass 110 jerkbaits and if so what are you using? Caught a few (smaller) bass on them. Great action, sticky sharp hooks but seem a little light. Are the stock hooks heavy enough to depend on them for a heavier fish?

Most suspending jerkbaits come with light wire hooks because the weight is so important to get the bait to suspend properly. Also if your fishing it correctly with 8-12lb line then the hooks should be a lot stronger than the line.

I don't like the MB hooks, I switch them out with Owner Stinger #6's.

If your changing hooks make sure you keep the weight as close as possible or your going to change the suspending action a couple tenths of a gram can change it from a slow sink, suspend, or slow float not that it is a bad thing you can play with it to make it do exactly what you want. Also as the water cools the bait will be more bouyant so if you find it floating up add a heavier split ring to the front hook or line tie to get it to stay down. I spend a lot of time tuning jerkbaits and the 110 is the most temperamental to weight.

BHD is stating the same thing that KVD has said about weight of the hooks allowing the bait to have the correct angle during rest. KVD said if the angle at rest is off it will hurt the bite. He said mono which does not sink as fast as others will not pull the nose down. Mono streeches helping with the hook set shock. I agree the hooks look too weak but they are sharp. I only catch small fish so it's not much of an issue for me.

TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE
Set the hook first and ask questions later.

I have been wanting to order this hook to test them out but can't find the weight anywhere online and I order 100 to 500 at a time and would sure hate if I ordered them and found out they were to heavy. Right now I'm using #6 vmc forged round bends and they weight is perfect with the rings I'm using.

I switch them out with Mustad Triple Grip #6's, with 10 or 12lb mono.

Have caught a number of 8lb Bass on them with no problems.

I'm not a fan of running triple grips on a jerkbait just less likely to hook them if they swipe at it better chance of getting hooks into them with round bends.
