i am considering this as i get ready to buy a new boat - advantages and disadvantages based on your experience as a boat owner and or co-angler
ive had both and am leaning towards a single for room.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I always said I would get a single for space purposes, however my rig has a double and my co-anglers (family) enjoy it. It's a tight fit getting between them, but I feel like it's worth the trade off.

ive had both and am leaning towards a single for room. This. when you think about a day of fishing, how much of it is spent behind the console by your fishing partner vs. the extra space not having it provides. BUT, now days, with removable consoles, this question is obsolete. I think it takes about 5 minutes to remove a 2nd console with recent model boats. Pretty easy.

I think any boat under 20' I much prefer single console.....more room and freedom of movement. 20+ foot long boats mitigate the crowded feel somewhat and to me speaks of being on big water (rough) and hi speed.... So double console makes sense....

I have had 2 19 foot boats, and one of each...Honestly I dont find an advantage to one or the other. I dont miss the single console, but do like the extra storage from the dual. I also like the console covering certain items while at speed...I fish barefoot and this has been a great place to keep my shoes and a towel without it blowing all over...
And even though its not often the GF appreciates the dual console...She happy, we all happy!!!

My tournament partner has a single console and I do not like it as a passenger. Not only do I not have a place for my gear, we fished a tourney last year in sub freezing temps and drizzle/sleet. Our first run of the day was 20 minutes and it was the worst experience of my life. After an hour of not catching any fish at our first spot, (which took me about 20 minutes to defrost despite having 100MPH, save face mask, and gloves on) he says I think we need to move. I said nope, I'd rather pay the tournament fee and sit here and not catch a damn thing that make another run, and that's what we did.

Single fishes way better. Double travels better(for partner). I fish an hour for every few minutes of travel. No brainer...to me!

Its just a personal preference. I have kids and I prefer they have a little protection from wind/bugs etc.. If I were fishing solo or didn't have the kids in the boat I would go with a single.

from what I've figured out so far...
Northern and colder more doubles and easier to resell.
Southern and warmer more singles and easier to resell.
As a coangler and frequent guide customer singles SUCK! When it is cold it is miserable, but even when warm drops of water from trolling motor hit like a BB and pieces of grass hit like a bullet.
I understand pros and single consoles, I have yet to figure out why so many guides get singles. Well, the answer is probably simple they have NEVER ridden shotgun.

Very high percentage of professional/semi-professional/serious tournament anglers typically are driving single consoles and there are good reasons. If this does not apply to you then get what you think looks best or consideration for your fishing buddy.

60-70 mph wind in the face is not fun for a co-angler, especially if it's cold. I fish alone 99% of the time so I bought a single console, but if I had a regular partner I would go with the double console. Or I would at least buy one of those ski mask/helmet things for my partner to wear.
Nitro consoles are removable, by the way.

I'm a single console fan when in my boat and my fishing partner has a dual console, so I'm a fan of the dual when in his boat

It all has to do with resale. Depending on what boat you buy most boats now you can add a 2nd console later. When you buy the boat and if you want single just order the 2nd console put it up and then when you sale it it will be easier to sale having the 2nd console!

Yall must be short people. Personally I do not find a big difference unless spearing waves, because my head is usually higher than the windshield. Best thing for boat rides is a full face motorcycle helmet. There is no replacement.

I agree with the poster who stated that boats under 20 feet do better with the single console as the console takes up a lot of space. Over 20 feet, either works fine.
