Bought a new Curado last year because I loved the old Green model so much. Thought the new ones would be as nice....wrong! They don't cast as well...thinkin' its the new spool braking system...and they require lots more maintenance. Thinkin' about replacing it. I love Shimano reels but the new Curado was a step backward...IMHO texas

I really don't get the negative comments about the new Curado. I have 10 of them and they have been flawless. Sure don't understand comments about them not casting well. When dialed in, they cast a mile.

I'm with you. I dumped all my E series after using the new one for a few weeks. I haven't looked back.

Thanks for your post Bryan it made me wonder if I spoke too soon? Experiences are from using only one new Curado...and so it might be the "one in ten" that just doesn't work as engineered. Its dialed in properly so that's not an issue. As for the maintenance...Shimano recommends cleaning and oiling the SVS after every trip and the bearings after every 5 trips or once a month. Compared to my other Shimano reels and the old Greenie that seems like a lot of maintenance. My comments are not meant to be negative...just information to be processed with every other post. I love Shimano reels been using them for over a decade.

Personally I think the 200 DHSV were the best reels they've made in a LONG time. The older reels in general have held up better for me. I like the new I but it's not as "tough" as my older 200 E7 and DHSVs

I have 6 of them. Never had any problems with mine. They'll all cast a mile for me.

I have several and a couple of them have developed noisy bearings so I had Ron @ reel time rods replace them and now they are way better..

FYI, when folks refer to the "old green ones" that were bullet proof they are referring to the older B models not the newer E models. For what its worth the D models were damn good as well, IMO it was the E models that the curado brand started slipping backwards. I talked to a guide last spring that still has over a dozen of the B's still in rotation that are 15 years old, said they get 100's of hours put on them annually.

Do not take the "I" to saltwater. It will never be the same after.

They are not better for durability(neither is any reel made these days) but ergonomics are better. Finding the old green ones is just going to get harder and harder to do so you might have to start liking the new ones.
