For some reason I have a love for jigs but never fish with them. I guess it's because I'm a fun fisherman and don't fish tournaments anymore. I'm after numbers instead of size. Keeping that in mind have you ever caught numbers on a jig instead of a texas rig?

If you are wanting numbers I would choose a drop shot and a shaky head. Jigs are known as a big fish bait and you can have fun catching big fish with them. You don't have to be a tournament fisherman to throw a jig. LOL

Ya they are one of the best big fish baits. But have you ever caught more numbers wise over a trig? I'm such a bug trig thrower it's hard to change it up

I think it depends, I have caught great numbers flipping docks and trees on Jigs. But I didn't throw T-rig the same day so I couldn't tell you which is better. They have their time and their place

In my experience the jig is not a numbers bait but then I don't throw a finesse jig. It might be better for numbers, I don't know.

We catch 100 per day in Mexico every day. I can tell you the Trig. will out fish the Jig. When we fish the jig we do not catch and larger Bass than on the trig unless we are fishing deep water against the bluffs. So just like always there is a time and place for each bait that you choose to use.

We fish mostly in 3 to 6 ft. of water and the trig. using flipping baits will out fish the jig.

I caught 12 or 13 flipping a 3/8 oz jig today. I think I caught 7 other fish doing other things, so today my numbers came from a jig.

Last Saturday I couldn't get bit if my life depended on it on a t-rig craw. I put a jig on with the same craw trailer and it was literally every other cast for 30 casts. Just depends on what they want that day. All of my fish were around the 2-2.5lb range.

Five bites on a Jig a day will be much bigger fish than 5 on a TX Rig.

I love jigs, there's times where fish would rather bite a soft plastic because of its small profile. But there's other times I feel I can flip a Jig out there and they will bit it better. I have had days where I have up to 18 on a Jig. And a dry spell where I can't get one to bite a jig. It all depends the water your fishing!

I just started fishing a jig about a year ago and it is addicting. I have had days were the poor guy in the boat with me did not fish jigs and was throwing t-rig all day. At the end of the day it was 27-0 (i did not keep track, he did) and he had 0. He is now learning how to fish a jig. I doubt that is the case all of the time but now I do not even keep a t-rig tied on, that used to be my go to bait. As far as size, I have caught many flash light fish on a jig. I call them that because it looks like you could put a small mag light in there mouth and it would be the perfect mini light. I have had fish that can not pick up the 1oz jig i was pitching and swim away. I would put tension in the line and it felt like it was pulling over grass. Reeled it in and realized the poor lil bass had hit it at the right angle and when he tried to swim off he set the hook on him self. I guess I am trying to say they both have there places and sometimes the t-rig catches numbers and sometimes its the jig.

Do you think flipping a Texas rig craw in the same spots would've caught the fish??? I throw that more than anything by a large margij

That is similar to what I was thinking.. Did he devote the same amount of time fishing the jig as he did fishing "other things"?

I love throwing a jig but I do so because usually it will catch bigger fish than other techniques. For numbers it has been my experience that a drop shot or a shaky head will get more bites because they are smaller baits fished on lighter line and I just simply get more bites on them than the jig.

The past trip or two I've started throwing the finese jigs like the bitsy bug or Ikes many flipping jig. I've seem to have a lot more bites and have a lot more confidence in it. I think those are just like throwing a craw on a trig so I feel I get a lot more bites
