Going to try to go catch large reds, black drum and whatever else that will bite down at San Luiz Pass on the 28th. Any tips and advice from the more experienced fisherman in this area. I haven't ever fished there before. What equipment do I need, bait, and where to place my cast?

You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Sean, I caught a 35" and a 36" Red in about an hours time this past Sunday. I also had one that some how didn't hook up on a circle hook. I waded out waist deep and let 'er fly, probably 30 yards out. Counting down my weight, I was in about 8-10' of water. Be SURE you have your rod holders in the sand good, those fish will take your tackle if you're not careful.

I caught one on cut mullet and the other on crab. I saw one about 40" caught just down from me, it came on mullet.

I would recommend at least 6-8 oz of weight unless you're there at slack tide. I fish the Galveston side of the pass, Gulf side of the bridge. The grass was bad, but after a couple of times reeling in, clearing the grass and recasting, I just left them out there. The grass wads up on the line but usually it's a long ways from your bait.

Keep the Lord in your heart and keep your powder dry.

For what it's worth I hear the current can be dangerous there
