Hello. I'm in the market for either a Power Pole or a Talon, and wanted to get some feedback, on which one you think is better and why. I kinda like that the Talon can be folded, and is easy to install, but I heard it's a bit weaker than the Power Pole. Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks!

Here we go! Do a search on TFF and find more information(and opinions) on this topic. But since you asked...I prefer the Power Poles. I like their smoothness, speed of deployment and frankly their looks. They are rock solid in shallower depths because of the way my pair deploys down AND out giving a firm wide base. They are limited by their 8' length though. Mine have been flawless for several years now. Good luck.

I have a pair of 8' Talons. I've had them for a few years without problems. I just did not have space in my bilge for the pumps. I like the Talons.

Power pole has the best customer service I think there is, they will even help you if something is out of warranty. They are quieter then talons and stronger with the wider deployment.

I have only had my power poles for about 6 months. I bought them used off of this site and I love them. Can't speak about Talons but because of the customer service from JL Marine I won't buy anything but PP. About 2 months in my top cap on one of the pumps went out. They replaced it no question asked. Last week the circuit board went out on the same pump. Called JLM, gave them the serial number and even though I bought them used and they were 8 months out of warranty they sent me a new circuit board, no charge. $240 value. Outstanding Custome Service!

One thing I like about pp is I can reach over a tree in 15 fow with the wind and anchor myself

I have a Talon for about 5 years now and the only problem I have had was one day I had my head where the sun don't shine backed up on the carport without laying it down. Had to have the case replaced and a part of the mount.

Power pole has shown me the best customer service I have ever seen, more than once.

Personally I have never had either, but I've fished out of the back of boats with both. Power poles are out of the way when deployed, Talons are not. I think Talons look "cooler" but power poles have more functionality. Whatever you get, make sure you get 2 or you will spin around.

I haven't had to use customer service, my talons work. when I was making my decision on what I was going to buy I saw 2 failures of power poles, one was lynn atkinson a guide on sam rayburn a few years ago at the cassels boykin boat ramp, the next was skeet reese's on day 4 on toledo bend, i was his marshall and got to watch him try to fight/rig it to stay up so he could continue to fish, made a good oil slick lol....i went with the talons never seen any failures, heard of very few cables breaking, but you gotta consider the operator in some cases pp and talon for failures......

Thanks for all your feedback, very helpful! I had looked previously for this topic on TFF, but couldn't find it? Any suggestions on how to search for it? Thanks.

I have 2 - 10' Talons that are 2 years old now, and have had no problems. I became a believer in shallow water anchors after fishing with a friend that had Power Poles - he loved them and also had no problems.

After doing my research, I decided to go with Talons. 10' Talons stick up only a few inches above the cowl of the outboard, no hydraulic pumps to mess with or worry about where to mount, 5 year mechanical parts and labor warranty and lifetime on the spike, and I just like the look.

Either Talons or Power Poles will do the job, I believe both are quality products. All you have to do is figure out which will work best for you. Good Luck!!

Talons seem to be the smart choice when I was looking. Heard they were a little loud but they were easier to install, cheaper, no pumps and you could buy the fold down brackets. That being said I have 2 8' blades on my Skeeter lol. Just something about a Power Pole that makes me want them. I wouldn't change my choice. I love em!

I've never needed customer service for my Talons. So I guess that's pretty good.

I could anchor and hold my Z9 in 11' in a light wind. In strong winds 10'.

Both products are quality products. I've had both. I'm now affiliated with Minn Kota and I love my Talons and can't wait to get my new ones. I love the fact I can lower them with the tilt brackets to get into low clearance spots. I love the quick disconnects on the wiring that allow me to remove them with minimal effort.

Either way, shallow water anchors are awesome and you'll love the addition of them on your boat. Good luck.
