I took my wife on her first crappie trip and caught some hogs!

After many many trips with friends, my wife was begging for me to take her so I called up Jason Burton to take us out on Lake Palestine. As weather would have it, conditions were about as bad as could be. Rained almost the entire week prior to our trip and quit raining the day before we went. Water was being let out of the lake and the wind was tough. I explained to my wife that this would most likely be a fishing trip and not a "catching" trip do to the conditions. However, Mr. Burton had other plans and he did not disappoint. We got on the water about 2 Sunday afternoon and the first three spots were covered up with fish but they wanted nothing to do with us. Jason quickly abandoned the spot and decided to take a completely different approach. The very next spot was the ticket and the second fish to hit carpet was in the two pound range. My wife was instantly hooked even though she had not successfully hooked anything but brush. After a few missed fish she finally reels in her very first crappie and her face lit up. I was ecstatic to see her enjoying herself while also secretly hoping she was developing the same love for crappie fishing that I enjoy so much. Jason continued to wear out the trolling motor and bouncing from spot to spot putting us on more and more fish. I would estimate that we caught over 50 fish in about 3 hours of fishing and came home with 19 quality keepers plus four biguns. My wife quickly picked up on some of the techniques we were using and even recognized a crappie pushing her jig up without thumping the jig. On the way home she kept on and on about the trip and how she could really get into fishing. Some of you on here know me and know how awesome that was to hear considering how much I love to fish. All in all we had an amazing time and got to enjoy a boat ride into a perfect sunset on the way back to the dock.

If anyone is contemplating a trip with Jason Burton please do yourself a favor and set up a trip with him. Fishing with Jason was like fishing with an old friend, an awesome deckhand, and one heck of a crappie fisherman. We will see you again Jason, thanks for everything!

Jason, I can't seem to get the pictures to post on here. Would you please add some pictures to the comments.

Nice Slabs and it's great to hear excitement in your wife's voice when she talks about fishing thumb

Belinda hogs the Crappie World magazine when it hits the mailbox! She wants to go to Grenada, guess we'll have to make that trip someday banana

Jason is an exceptional guide cheers

Now you don't have to look far for a fishing buddy, but getting some "ME" time just got difficult roflmao

Man you are lucky, I can barely get my wife in the boat. I see all these couples out there fishing together and wish she would come with me. Of course if I caught some big ones when she was in the boat that might help.

If I ain't fishing, I ain't happy.
But mostly I'm happy.
I love being retired, the check is in the mail.
