Spent a few hours at Cooper Lake Saturday morning, fighting howling winds, and caught some small cats and one nice drum... Great colors, we thought.

They are good eating. The smaller ones, up to around 5 pounds seem to be the best to me. They have good firm white meat.

One of the better eating fish, people dont think twice about eating the saltwater version. They eat mainly shelfish, not sure why the freshwater ones get a bad rap with some folks.
Its a nice fish either way, good job

If the fish don't bite your not baiting right...

OK, you have my attention, guys... Do you prepare drum any special way? For instance with the striper/white family I need to remove the dark line down the side, or it's too fishy for my taste. To put things in perspective, I can't stand trout or salmon, but love cats, crappie, gills, walleye, etc.
Thanks!
