I see a lot of guys refer to "deep fish" or the "deep bite"... what is deep?

To me beyond 25 feet I would call deep.

But my co-worker and I were just chatting and he says in his mind 10ft+ is "deep".

What is deep?

I thought the best definition of "deep" is relative to the body of water you are fishing. Back home in some of the bayous and sloughs 14' was considered deep

Deep is related to water clarity. Deep in muddy water is 5'. In the same way shallow is wherever I can see the bottom in clear water. That may be 12-15'. Basically 15+' is a good depth to call deep around here. I've caught them on the bottom in 100-105' on Amistad. (The bass air bladders didn't blow up)

For LMB fishing in Texas I'd say:
Shallow 0-5ft
Mid depth 5-12ft
Deep 12ft +

18 + = deep ,
6"- 10' = shallow,
10' - 18' = Mid-range

This thread is deep.

Sometimes it just depends on the guy you're talking too. I know a few guys who think anything over 5' is deep.

A while back I asked a guy how deep he was fishing and he said "on the bottom". And he meant it. He was not just giving me a line to keep it to himself.

15 foot is deep in my book.

Deep is drop shotting on Tabke Rock. Marking smallies in 60 ft of water that are suspended in tree tops that are in 150+ feet of water. And having to fizz every catch.

That's deep.

i used to think that 15' was deep till I started to fish with a friend of mine that loved to fish 40 to 50'
so now if im in the right place I wont hesitate for a second in 50' of water

Depends on the lake and who you talk to. For me anything over 10ft is deep. I'm going to fish shallow if I can. Just the way I fish so while I begin to consider 10-12 ft deep an off shore structure fisherman would consider that shallow.

I agree, this is a deep subject. To me it depends on the lake because different lakes have different depths and different clarity, and that makes all the difference in how deep you have or need to fish. Some places I fish, 10 to 15 is deep, but sometime on Rayburn I fish 20 to 30 feet deep, its all relative.
