I'm posting this here because I figured I would get more feedback and get a good idea of what people are paying for maintenance. Last time I took my boat out, it would bog down right before I fully got on plane (2001 Yamaha 225 vmax ox66). From the research I've done, I'm thinking (and hoping) it's just a filter. I'm planning on taking my boat in and just having it serviced since this is a good time for that. I'm talking new filters, plugs, and lower unit oil. About how much do you should this cost if I take it somewhere vs doing it myself? And am I missing anything?

Don't forget an impeller and have all your fuel hoses checked as well due to the lousy gas we have to put in them. The ethenal will make the hose deteriorate. I had to have my '98 175 EFI original hoses changed out a couple of years ago.

You may want to check the fitting at the top of the fuel filter and make sure it hasn't come loose. I had the same issue and found that mine was a bit loose and leeking in air. Tightened it and it ran just fine again.

Getting your maintenance done is still important, of course

Or you could do it yourself for around $100 with some simple tools. There's little I can't maintain thanks to YouTube. Stuff like water pump, lube, plugs, it's all pretty easy.

My guess would be the low pressure fuel pumps are starting to die. They are easy to replace and not too expensive. SimYamaha.com is where I go for parts.

my yearly maintenance cost for my yammi is around 50 dollars. plugs, lower unit oil, grease fittings, water separator filter. every 2-3 years its 100 dollars when i change out impeller, repack bearings on trailer. takes me about 45 minutes to do everything. about 1.5 if i am repacking bearings.
Other things that i have done to boat since 2003 was change oil pump once 150. rebuilt carbs 100. change out fuel pump and thermostat. That's it. All done in the garage and youtube. Quicker to do at home than to drag to dealer.
