This shows to be from October: http://www.scout.com/outdoors/fishing/story/1602704-meet-the-monster-bass-of-lake-el-salto I have been wanting to go back. My personal best came from this lake fishing with my Dad.

Headed to ElSalto and Picachos on full moon in February 2/3 days
Went last year and had a great trip.
El Salto fewer but bigger.
Picachos 125-150 a day ranged from 2# to 6#, lots of 3-4#

I really suggest you contact Doug King at Pro Bass Adventures 380-491-9300 office, or 480-861-5021 cell, 1984 E. Brentrup Dr., Tempe, AZ 85283
He's on vacation for this week but should be back next week, I don't know who else mans the phones.
Went with them last Dec. and going again this year. Great accommodations and service, even better food and drinks, and the fishing and their guides are exceptional.
Caught a personal best of 11# 4oz on the first day and on the final day in the last 2 hours of fishing time we got into a bunch in a 200-300 yard area and boated at least 18, and 12 of them were over 10#, all on a Pop-R. Yahoo!
Total cost with American Airlines airfare and the local guides and service personnel tips which are separate, comes to about $2250, give or take. I'm retired and not a wealthy person but this trip and time I had on it last year made me want to do it again...and I am. Very well worth the expense.
Hope this helps.

This is the latest from Doug King at Pro Bass Adventures, right before left for week's vacation with his wife.

The fishing activity seems to have just blown up and improved over the last 3-4 days, after I left of course.
They averaged about 70 yesterday with a couple over 10 and some 7-9s, along with chunky males in the 3-5 range. It will just get better now...

Swimbaits (Keitech 5 with a 3/8 oz head or similar), TX rigged Lizards, senkos, 7 flukes, oz rattle baits (3/4 Strike King Red Eye Shad), poppers, spooks all worked yesterday.
The topwater and 7 fluke bite, and scrounger/fluke will keep getting better now that fish are moving to the bank more. Bring some buzzbaits and buzzing/paddle tail frogs!

The lake is 101% full today and they have not yet started pulling irrigation water, but they will any day.
This will improve things further as the minimal hyacinth that is hugging the shoreline will soon be stuck on the bank, as the water drops.
There is plenty of hyacinth in the lake, but MUCH less than last year. I really like the conditions as they are now, and we will keep the plants in check.
The beetles are doing their thing and killing a lot of it and making it sickly. A little of it is great for the fishing, So all is good now on that front.

I fished Lake Mateos a few years ago with Billy Chapman. Got up one morning and all the employees were talking about how El Chapo had spent the the night in the little town there. Seems he has a lot of family there. It didn't hurt the fishing a bit.

Great point. If you are in a rival cartel you might not want to go anywhere in the state of Sinaloa.

I went to picachos last feb. We caught a ton of fish like 90-100 per person each day no giants. Its a new lake was told they can locate bigger fish when the water is down? It was full when we fished.
