Buying online does two things. It helps keep the postal service, FedX and UPS in business and it saves me money. I also look online for electronic free shipping coupons and if from out of state I pay no tax--for now. As for the merger, I see where Ranger boats' top 3 executives have now been fired. One of these guys has been with the company since he was 16 yrs old. I am really having a problem with this. A man's life long service means nothing to these greedy bastiges. No one got fired. They resigned. They were offered the option of resigning. Same as being fired. Funny, I do know the reason they resigned and it wasn't because they were fired.

I certainly would not like to see these chains merge. Less competition will mean higher prices. It will also mean less selection for us. BPS and Cabela's have problems of their own making. Big fancy "destination" stores with high overhead tend to loose their appeal over time. Tourist's do not necessarily buy a lot of sporting goods.

They resigned. They were offered the option of resigning. Same as being fired. It's common practice to ask for a resignation as opposed to firing someone. Call it business political correctness. It protects them from a future wrongful termination lawsuit for which the statute of limitations in some states can be quite lengthy. I was hit like that years ago. I was asked for a resignation because of a confrontation with a co-worker, along with some behind the scenes conversations that I was not privy to and was told behind closed doors that it could go like that or I would eventually be released anyway going through review precesses and evaluations. It's hard to believe that three tenured employees with that much time in service and who were obviously knocking down some decent salaries all decided to drag up. Details on things like that are always kept under wraps, but you can be assured someone higher in the company wanted them gone.

Tourist's do not necessarily buy a lot of sporting goods. . Neither do sportsmen who see higher prices and lower quality, and both chains have their share of merchandise quality and price issues. When companies are merged there has to be a resulting standard that can be applied to all everyone involved. Usually that turns out to be the lowest common denominator. The acquisition of Cingular Wireless by AT&T years ago is a good example of that. AT&T took a very competent wireless company and immediately brought it down to their standards, which never were really very high. They had no intention of improving service for anyone. It was a move to reduce competition.
