October Update:

Evaporation for October = 10.45 inches, which equals about 24,113 acre-feet.

Water Released Downstream for Cities by the SRA for October = 541,743,308 gallons or 1,662.6 acre feet or about 0.062 feet taken off the lake.

Water Pumped by Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) for October = 262,000,000 gallons or only 804 acre-feet or about 8.4 million gallons per day. This equals about 0.029 feet of water removed from the lake. This was way less than the water taken during the summer months.

So, again evaporation is by far the major source of water loss for Lake Fork in October. .

Year To Date Through October

Evaporation for the Year Through October = 69.5 inches or 5.79 feet or about 156,330 acre-feet..

Water Released Downstream by the SRA for Cities Through October = 6,363.4 acre-feet.

Water Released by the SRA Through the Flood Gates when the Lake was Over Full this Spring = 94,659.5 acre-feet.

DWU Water Pumped for the Year through October = 34,309.1 acre-feet. (Note: DWU is entitled to pump 131,000 acre-feet, so they will be well under that for 2015).

So for the year about 291,662 acre-feet of water left the lake through evaporation, releases and pumping, which is well over 10 feet of water taken off the lake. Thanks to inflow from storm water runoff earlier this year and the recent generous rains the lake is now currently full. The surface area of the lake is currently at full pool, which 27,690 surface acres.

The dam is not designed for flood storage, so if the forecasts are correct that El Nino will continue to provide lots of rainfall this winter the SRA will likely not allow the lake to go much over a half foot above full pool.

One last bit of information is that DWU pumped less than 1/3 of the water they could have pumped this summer. Had DWU pumped their full allotment then there would have been another 3.5 feet of water replace.

I imagine they have the gates open as there is still a lot of water running in from the creeks
