For some reason, I was not allowed to reply on this topic?
Any how, I did have something to add to this that works like a champ.
The very first fish you catch, make sure you get both hands on it and rub the fish a little. Release fish and rub the fish oder into your hands till it drys. I have been doing this for many many years and I 100% believe it works great. No human scent on my hands. Through out your fishing trip, as you catch fish, continue to keep that fishy scent on your hands.

I kind of assumed that tossing a lure into the water and dragging it through said water would be washing the bait. I have never washed my hands nor seen anyone else do it with the mind set that fish would be alerted by human scent.

Because there have been multiple studies that prove it. Google it or just ask Mr. Harper.

Oh I know, everyone wants to be negative about a subject on here. I'm guessing the other thread has been locked due to negative statements. Here's the deal on social media, read it and absorb what you wish and the rest of it you ignore. This is just something an old timer told me years and years a go. Does human scent on a bait make a difference or not? I do not have the correct answer to this question, I only know that it seems to work for me and I'm not buying something silly to wash my hands with. You can either try it, or don't try it, makes no difference to me. I've been doing this for the past 45 years and I personally think it makes a difference. But here again, this is only something that I've done forever and truly believe in it. The only thing I can go by are the years of experience. Is it superstition? Maybe, but it sure seems to work for me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL

I use to post on here a lot when this website first started up, but due to those who question anything and everything one may post, really weighs heavy on folks and causes one to shy away from posting anything at all. A fishing forum was not designed to be a place to run a debate session, it's a place to share fishing reports and fishing experience, or tips with others. I do not Google information about fishing, I share stuff that I've either done or tried myself in the past. Fishing is what I live for.

I actually agree with you and getting a lil fish scent on the hands gives me confidence if nothing else right. What better cover scent than real live fish. Sorry about my question earlier. I honestly wasn't trying to start a debate. It was sincere question if human scent really scares bass and if so why would it.

Duh! Nothing gives me more confidence than a little fish scent on my hands because it means I'm already catching fish! :-)

What about all the pros that alter their baits with sharpie markers? Most of them do it and sharpie doesn't smell very good.

Reaction baits that move quickly through the water should not apply to this topic. Reaction baits create their own strike. Where as a slow moving plastic is a bait that they approach and study before they pick it up. Some times they hammer it, but not often. My original post about fish smell on my hands only applies to when ever I'm fishing plastic or a jig. When using plastic, an angler will fix and adjust it several times before changing it out with a new one. I'm always adjusting mine. I inspect it every time I reel it in. Now that I think about it, I inspect every artificial bait before casting it back out. But the slow fished plastics I handle them the most. No big deal if you try this or not, just something an old timer told me and I have done this every since I can remember. It does make total since to me. If nothing else, the smell on my hands is proof to my spouse that I've been fishing all day. See, there is always a positive side to what we do, you just have to do a little soul searching. If I didn't smell like fish when I got home, she just might ask me what in the world have you been doing all this time. LOL

Good point fishytx. You thank she can really tell the difference between the two fishy smells?

Now on your reaction statement. I still want my reaction baits smelling like Minnow. I want all my baits carrying all the senses that a Bass uses to feed. Don't fool yourself they can smell all scents from a long way away and will follow that trail quickly. You would be hard pressed to take a bait away from a Bass if it really wanted it and you didn't know it was coming. In other words fast moving baits are nothing for a Bass to catch and check out if they want to. Everything on that bait is evaluated in a split second.

I know for a fact that Minnow Extract on a fast moving bait makes a lot of difference. We catch 100 Bass per day in Mexico and those throwing spinner baits without the Extract will only catch 70 per day. We have done these test over and over day in and day out down there. Now in our lakes where we are getting 5 bites per day most of the time it is very difficult to tell what works and what don't. You could of just as easily ran into a few feeding fish and got bit.
