Might head out to purtis this weekend in the kayaks. Has anybody been out lately? Any info on the bite, water color and temp, grass? Just any info will be appreciated. Haven't been in about 6-8 years

It's been about a month for me but there is no grass in the lake anymore. TPW killed it all! Very tough fishing when I was there. Not going back soon.

that's sad. I loved the grass there. It was one of the only lakes i felt safe in while fishing out of a Jon boat so me and my dad used to go quite a bit. The biggest bass I've ever seen in person was out there just cruising next to the boat. Hope the grass comes back!

Grass won't come back unless TPW kills the grass carp they put in there to eat all the grass...

Odd that the TP&W folks have increased the numbers and locations of the vegetation protection cages on the lake. If getting the pads and grass established is what they're after just allow bow fishing for carp. Bow fishing would be outstanding for a while. Problem solved ... grass and pads will come back on their own. Go figure???

Purtis is a hot or cold fishing lake...one trip its great...next trip its terrible. This time of year fish shallow and use squarebills or spinnerbaits and cover lots of water. Pay attention to isolated cover. Sometimes banging a spinner or squarebill thru the timber along the old creek channel running thru the upper end pays off, too.

There are lots of big bass there...if you can catch them. Gotta find 'em and be able to fish more than one technique. Every time you fish there its possible to land a DD. Possible ... not probable. It's a tough lake by any measure but, if you love a good challenge its great.

Fish the lighted piers early morning. You can see them cruising

Anybody fished Purtis in the past 2 weeks? I hear the water is up so high the boat ramps are closed.
